Temecula Student Center 5th Grader Wins Dance Competition

Demi Tassinari, a 5th-grade student with the Temecula Student Center, joined with her hip-hop team “Welcome to New York” to take first place at the regional Countdown Competition at Lake Elsinore High School. She has been dancing competitively for two years and has competed on two hip-hop and two jazz teams.

Demi said, “I love dancing and performing, it makes me happy.”

Demi practices up to eight hours weekly at Temecula Dance Company. She practices ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and tumbling classes. She participates in five competitions annually, including a national competition in Las Vegas. Her other hip-hop team, “Dancing in the Streets,” won first place in Las Vegas, in 2017.

Demi, age 9, lives in Temecula. Springs’ Da Vinci Academy works well for her, her mother Rebecca said, because they like “the schedule, flexibility and what the school is centered around.” Demi’s brother participates in Springs’ KEYS independent study program.

After graduating from Springs, Demi hopes to receive a dance scholarship for college and become a choreographer.
