I graduated from Florida State University in 1986 with a B.S. in Business Administration. After substituting at the local school districts for 7 years, I returned to school and received my multiple subject teaching credential from Cal State-Fullerton in 2011. My experience includes teaching 5th grade and transitional kindergarten/kindergarten.
As an educator, I believe that each child brings something unique to the classroom and the world. My classroom provides a safe, nurturing environment allowing students to find answers to their questions, share ideas and learn they are part of a bigger community. I enjoy teaching and believe that with my varied life experiences I have much to offer the students at Palm Academy.
My role as a teacher is to guide students in their search for knowledge. My classroom shows respect for its members and their ideas. Fostering student dialogue through class meetings enables students to have a voice in what they are learning. Student-centered learning activities increase motivation, engagement and the desire to learn. Fair and consistent classroom management tells students what is expected of them.
I endeavor to build a partnership with families and recognize them as contributing members of the educational team. It is my responsibility as a teacher to be the best advocate I can be for the educational success of my students. Each day my actions show respect, dignity, and consideration for my students and my fellow colleagues.
During my leisure time, I enjoy swimming, reading, sewing and line dancing and cheering for my favorite basketball team, The Boston Celtics.
