Education

I joined Springs Charter School after spending 10 wonderful years at Central Academy in Ann Arbor, MI. While in Michigan I was a teacher, an assistant principal, and a curriculum coordinator for a district.

I am a firm believer in a quality education and therefore maintain high standards of education for myself. I attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec for my undergraduate degree in Honors Sociology and International Development Studies. It was an amazing experience to live in a vibrant city like Montreal and to work with the high quality scholars at McGill. I then attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario for my education degree in Honors K-8 Education. While I was at Queen’s University, I had the privilege of teaching in Cartagena, Colombia for some of my student teaching. I also have my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Studies from The University of Western Ontario.

On November 2, 2007 I was honored to be named 2007 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year. On April 16, 2013, I was honored to be acknowledged at Riverside’s Barnes and Noble for a ‘My Favorite Teacher’ essay that one of my amazing students wrote.

Favorite Hobbies

During the summer I enjoy traveling with my husband. We have been to many places together and lived in London, England for a year where I also taught. Our most recent trip was a month traveling through India! I hope to visit a place on each of the seven continents – and have only Australia and Antarctica to go!

I also enjoy connecting with educators across the world and have developed a large Professional Learning Network of educators that I communicate with on a regular basis. Being a connected educator is a huge hobby of mine!

Favorite Books

I enjoy reading both books and the many, many blog posts in my RSS feed. As a child, I was often found with a flashlight reading well into the night and well past my bedtime.

Favorite Subject

I always enjoyed every subject in school. Learning is very important to me and as a life-long learner, I look for learning experiences every day.
