Palm Academy Students’ Art Earns Ribbons at the Fair

Forty students from Palm Academy grades pre-K through 4 attended the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival in Indio; 20 students in grades 2 through 4 from teacher Maureen King’s class entered the Fair’s elementary school art competition. They contributed “expressive line art collages” created with colored pencils or felt pens.
Art teacher Lani Salhus provided two art lessons to students online and the use of lines in their artwork. Ms. King explained, “Each student thought about emotions important to them (love, fear, nervousness, excitement) and used line art to express those emotions.” Two Palm Academy students won first place in the competition, Mischa Goodman (2nd grade) and Michelle Cardenas (3rd grade). Several others earned 2nd place ribbons.
Ms. King noted, “Attending the fair and participating in fair events is a tradition for many of the families. As a community school, we see participating in the art contest as a way for our school to be visible in the community.”
