Murrieta Chamber Honors Two Springs Students

The Murrieta Chamber of Commerce has named two students of Springs Charter Schools Student of the Month for September and October 2014.

Emma Bermudez has been honored as the September Student of the Month.  She is a senior in Springs Charter Schools’ Real World Academy at the Temecula Student Center.

“She is a wonderful student who leads by example and is an inspiration to her fellow students,” observed Debbie Thurston, a program facilitator with Springs’ Temecula Student Center staff.

Debbie continued, “Emma is a deep thinker who is an avid reader and she is extremely intelligent.  She is a great encourager and friend to others, and she believes that by helping others, she becomes better herself.  She loves people and wants to help others grow.”

After graduation, Emma plans to attend the University of Washington and study speech pathology.

Curtis Hohl has been honored as the October Student of the Month.  He is a senior in a Springs homeschool program.

“I nominated Curtis because he is an all-around great kid!” said Jenna Scherrer, Curtis’ teacher.  “He is smart and driven and academically challenges himself by not only completing a rigorous high school schedule, but by taking community college courses as well.”

She noted that he is an active volunteer, serving in his church and building houses for the needy in Mexico.  She continued, “He is kind and compassionate, and witty and engaging.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him over the years.  I’m excited to see where his path takes him!”

Curtis plans to attend California Baptist University and major in software engineering.  He said, “I want to make the world a better place by designing software to help people.”

Of his volunteer activities, Curtis noted, “I have a real heart for the mentally handicapped … Integration and acceptance of the disabled community into regular life is a huge priority of mine.”
