Internship is an Asset for KEYS Senior

Dillon Haffner is a senior in the KEYS Independent Study program and is currently enrolled in Exploratory Work Experience Education 1, an unpaid internship.

In this internship, Dillon helps other KEYS students with technology. He chose this as his internship because he has extensive knowledge of the subject. Besides being certified in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and having extensive training in Excel, Dillon did a full year of a tech internship at an Apple-certified school. He has also had his own small business repairing iPhones for the past four years.

Dillon said working in the tech industry has always come naturally to him and has been an asset to his success as a student, especially in independent study: “My internship has helped me further my knowledge in problem-solving and providing useful solutions for a business environment. This has been extremely helpful to me as I am planning to go to school for my business degree.”

He has applied to both San Diego State University and California State University San Marcos.

When asked what advice he would give to other students interested in Work Experience, Dillon replied, “I would tell other students to follow their passions when deciding on an internship. Follow a path that is familiar to you but keep in mind that this is something you will be doing for a long time, so make sure you will enjoy it as well.”

Attending Springs has been of great benefit to him, Dillon said, “by teaching me to become more independent and mature as I prepare for college.” He continued, “Through Springs I have been given every tool possible to ensure my success in my academic career. I also have been afforded the opportunity to expand my knowledge of actual work experience at my internship through Springs.” His internship, he said, has allowed him to gain “incredible opportunities while helping staff and administration optimize their workflow in order to help create solutions that allow them to get work done more efficiently.”
