Sea Star Ocean Classroom

Join us abroad the SEA STAR – A unique floating laboratory for a fun, “Hands-on” Marine Science Learning Experience.

On this fun-filled voyage, students’ become “Ocean Explorers” as they head to open waters to discover the ecological treasures of the sea.

Investigating the biological and physical properties of local ocean waters is an exceptional learning experience everyone can enjoy. This 4 hour excursion aboard the 60 foot Sea Star includes on-board stations where students learn an appreciation for marine life, eco-systems, and how their daily lives connect to the sea.

  • Discover by “hands-on” examination many living marine specimens sampled from the ocean floor with use of an otter trawl net.
  • Study micro-organisms collected with a plankton trawl net and examined by using a color video microscope with LCD monitor.
  • Observe and learn details about marine birds and mammals and their habitats.
  • Measure marine environmental conditions with oceanographic instruments.

Important Information:

  • No late registrations or refunds will be processed after the closing date. No Exceptions
  • Special Guidelines: Space is limited; first serve. Recommended for K-8th, but no children under 4 years old.
  • Program length is approx. 4 hours.
  • Parking: Parking lot & meters (Cost TBD, subject to change)
  • All Students must be accompanied by a registered adult through PayPal.
  • Note: If you have multiple Homeschool students, each Homeschool student must be registered for all Field Trips using their own designated flex fund account. Any duplicate orders for the same field trip on one student’s account will not be allowed.
  • Field Trip Photography Disclaimer: “Please be advised that photographs will be taken at this event for possible use on the SCS website, marketing materials, and/or all other SCS publications. If you do not want you or your child to be photographed please advise the Field Trip Coordinator.
  • How to Cancel: Forward your registration confirmation email receipt to field.trips@springscs.org with a detailed notation to cancel by the deadline date indicated on each field trip.
