Knott’s – Early California Exploration

On this customized tour, students will discover early California’s history for themselves. This program will introduce students to several key components of California’s history thru fun, educational, interactive activities.

Native American Culture: Learn about the Pacific Northwest tribal groups thru the use of theatre magic as well as what life was like on the Great Plains. Students will make a bracelet using colored beads that correspond to parts of a Chumash Native American Legend as the story is told.

The Westward Movement and Early California: Focusing on life in the old west, the journey across the Prairies’ in a covered wagon, California Missions, and life prior to and during the Gold Rush. Students will spend time with Nancy Kelsey re-enactor who uses quilt squares like pages from a journal to share about her trip out west in the first covered wagon train to California in 1841; They will visit a one-room school house to find out what it was like to study in a multi-grade level setting, as well as attend a scavenger hunt to explore the Mission models and find answer to questions
about the missions.

Transportation and Industry: Emphasizes the importance of transportation to the lumber and gold mine industries. Students will journey on both the Log Ride and Gold Mine Ride to find out first hand how they played a role in shaping California’s history.

  • Special Guidelines: No use of membership/passes. Must be 6 or older to attend. One adult registration per family. Only tour participants may receive combo admission pricing. No park admission only tickets at combo rate.
  • All Students must be accompanied by a registered adult through PayPal.
  • Note: If you have multiple Homeschool students, each Homeschool student must be registered for all Field Trips using their own designated flex fund account. Any duplicate orders for the same field trip on one student’s account will not be allowed.
  • Field Trip Photography Disclaimer: “Please be advised that photographs will be taken at this event for possible use on the SCS website, marketing materials, and/or all other SCS publications. If you do not want you or your child to be photographed please advise the Field Trip Coordinator.
  • How to Cancel: Forward your registration confirmation email receipt to field.trips@springscs.org with a detailed notation to cancel by the deadline date indicated on each field trip.
