June e-Newsletter

The end of the school year is upon us. I hope all of our Springs family has enjoyed a positive, productive year.  We’re grateful to our students and parents for making Springs their charter school of choice.

To our graduating seniors, I wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Please stay in touch with the Springs community, and let us know how you’re doing. To our other students, we hope to be seeing you in the fall. For our returning students and parents, I’d like to share with you this article written by Jess McIntyre, one of our Education Specialists, about making “field trips” into “study trips.” Part of our education philosophy at Springs is to use the community as a classroom, so many of our programs incorporate such trips into the curriculum. In fact, we offer more than 80 field trips to our Homeschool community every year. Jess suggests that instead of treating these trips as a “fun ‘break’” from the classroom, “we need to plan ahead with a year or a semester plan of the basic subject matters to be studied, and try to find a trip or two each month that lines up with the topics the family will be covering.” Once such a trip has been selected, she continues, “At least a week or two before the trip we need to frontload some of the topics to be experienced.” And educators, she says, “need to research the activities on our outing so we can know the best time of arrival to take advantage of any hands-on workshops, or if we need to pack any supplies.” Please click on the link above to read the rest.  As we look ahead to the new school year, I think you’ll find Jess’ article most helpful.

The Springs Spirit Store is open for business! Shop for shirts, caps, sweatshirts, jackets and accessories with the Springs logo. Proceeds benefit the Summit Springs Educational Foundation, which provides college scholarships to Springs students and grants to Springs staff. Check the site often, as new products will be regularly added.

Enjoy your summer, and I hope to see you in the new school year!

Sincerely,
