Springs’ Palm Academy in Indio has been awarded $17,500 from the Anderson Children’s Foundation to expand its Desert Fox sound studio and animation space. It is the second grant received from the foundation; in 2021, the foundation gave a $12,500 grant to build the studio and purchase needed AnimationNow software so that students could create their own animated stories.
Palm Academy kicked off the new school year with a Community Carnival. Students and friends of the school enjoyed game booths, a snow cone/ice cream bus, food trucks, and waterslides, reported Haroon Abdul Mubaarik, principal.
Springs’ Pathfinder Resource Center in downtown Riverside (pictured above) is sporting a new paint job, reported Director of Homeschool Learning Centers Marla Martindale.
Shawna Lewis, principal of Springs’ Del Rio and Palm Academy Student Centers, reported that the Del Rio site enjoyed a Harvest Festival with staff dressing up as Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, and students enjoying arts & crafts, face painting, pie the principal and more (pictured are Darlene Blackman and Shawna Lewis). They also celebrated Indigenous People’s Month with presentations by two local tribal leaders to middle school students.

Springs’ Palm Academy in Indio has received a $12,500 grant from the Summit Springs Educational Foundation (SSEF) to be used to purchase AnimationNow software and to build a recording studio on the school’s new campus.
Springs’ Palm Academy received 2021 Best of Indio Award in the Schools category by the Indio Award Program, reported Principal Shawna Lewis because the school staff “achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community [which] helps make the Indio area a great place to live, work and play.”
Springs’ Palm Academy has moved out of a temporary facility that has housed students and staff for the past seven years and will soon move into a new facility in Indio which includes larger classrooms, an administration office, a location for its KEYS independent study high school program, and a warming kitchen for meal service.
Darla Ruiz was recognized as Springs’ Palm Academy Artist of the Month for September for her drawing of a real-life hero at the school’s monthly Palm Pechanga event, reported Principal Shawna Lewis. Additionally, Levi Jove, Kai Jove, Genesis Zazueta and Leland Hodges were named as the Palm Academy Desert Foxes of the Month for exhibiting Springs Graduate Learner Outcomes.
Del Rio Student Center students participated in the first annual Palm Academy Art Camp, learning how art enriches areas such as literacy, science and the global community. Students created “drawbots” (moving robots that explore physics through art), worked on a community art piece that will hang in the new Palm Academy facility and learned about how art connects to storybooks.
