Springs alumnus Eric Kosman, 20, is a cadet at the US Military Academy at West Point, class of 2019. He is a nuclear engineer major, and upon graduation, will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
He will serve his country as an Army Ranger. The former Temecula resident graduated from Springs in 2013. His sister, Caroline, is also a Springs graduate and his brother, Kelly, is currently attending Springs.
Eric took a leadership course while in Springs, and also “learned to work and communicate with others, both students and adults, when I participated in projects like FIRST Robotics.”
While in high school, he wanted to do something “extraordinary, different, challenging, yet humbling,” so he decided to become a soldier. He continued, “My desire to serve my country has always been the same, but my purpose expands as I learn what the Army stands for and what happens in the world today.” Eric was turned down when he first applied to West Point. But, he persevered and was admitted: “I recovered and grew more resilient. The application process was my greatest challenge at the time, but it was far worth it.”
At West Point, he has competed on the USMAPS cross country team and is a member of the Sandhurst Competition Team competing against teams from throughout the world in the areas of leadership, military skills and excellence and relationship building. He concluded, “First and foremost, I have God to thank for becoming a West Point cadet. Second, for all the instructors and counselors who helped with my application packets, I am truly grateful.”
