Katelyn Cherney, age 9, is a 3rd grade student at the Magnolia Student Center who has her own YouTube channel, Katelyn’s Korner.
She launched the program with the aid of Mark, her dad, four years ago, when she was only age 5.
Here is one of her early videos, about her puppy Pasha. More recently, she did this one about her passion, hockey, for a school project. Mark is a DJ, and his office serves as Katelyn’s studio. He has a green screen set up for her to film and serves as cameraman. He also does the computer production work, adding the title sequence, music and backdrop. Debby, Katelyn’s mom, sometimes helps with scripts and serves as cheerleader, Katelyn said. Katelyn describes the production as “my own kid’s news program.”
The program has been well received. Her shows have been featured on www.hellogiggles.com, and the Disney Channel contacted Debby and Mark (although they never pursued the relationship). Katelyn’s hockey coach liked her hockey piece so much he plans to use it to bring more girls into the sport. Katelyn enjoys attending Springs. Her favorite subjects/activities include math, science and recess. One day, she’d like to be a movie director.
